Anger Engages the Primitive Brain

Much of the research in the last few decades has focused on how a state of anger disables higher reasoning abilities and activates the more primitive parts of the brain—especially the limbic system. This is why taking a "time out" is a great anger management tool. It literally allows us to return to our "right mind" after going primitive. Taken early enough, a "time out" can prevent damage to relationships as well as ameliorate the physical health damage done by anger.
